Your goodwill and support have enabled us, at SACRED, to cope with the Herculean task of lifting up hundreds of our fellow human beings from the clutches of slavery, oppression, poverty, and unemployment. We have been organizing and empowering rural women, providing entrepreneurial training to women, and sensitizing the general public on issues of human rights, health and hygiene, and environment protection.
In all these endeavors, we have received the generous and whole-hearted support and assistance from individuals, institutions, and organizations, both government and non-government, national and international. Our achievements are still miniscule when compared to the immensity and imminence of the tasks we have already committed ourselves to and the tasks awaiting and clamoring for our attention.
All the activities and projects of SACRED are reviewed and supervised by trained personnel and qualified technical staff; besides, the inspecting teams are from the donor institutions and affiliated organizations. We at SACRED insist upon complete transparency in all policy decisions, project executions, and distribution of benefits. SACRED (Social Animation Center for Rural Education and Development) is registered under Karnataka Act. SACRED is also registered under 12A & 80G of the Indian Income Tax Act of 1961. SACRED is also registered under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA). SACRED came into existence in 2005 and was registered in 2007 under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960 (Karnataka Act 17 of 1960) and has been working in 50 villages in the Ramanagaram district.

Area of Operation
Social: SACRED’s crucial area is to promote social development in the Ramanagara district. It makes an effort to reduce child labor and ensure the human and education rights of all children. It aims to improve the quality of life of the underprivileged and marginalized people, including women, children, youths, and targeted communities, based on the doctrine of equality and ensure harmony and justice. We are accountable for the welfare of the people when need arises.
Economical: SACRED tries to recover the land of the poor and needy and diminish land acquisition by MNCs. SACRED unites in the capacity building of rural organizations by supporting and recommending them towards economic development. We at SACRED are planning to design a “microfinance program” for the poor. In this program, some of the donor organizations provide loans and financial aid to poor people when there is need. This in turn will help in local economic development.
Health: It promotes creating awareness on health and hygiene through campaigns, workshops, and other awareness programs for women, children, and targeted communities. SACRED plans to work closely with the local community to organize health camps for medical checkups, offering vaccinations, offering different healthcare services, providing healthy supplements, and spreading instructions on health care in various schools and day care centers.
Art and Culture: SACRED intends to spread art and culture to the general public. It plans to organize cultural programs and events to create awareness of India’s diverse culture. In the future, it plans to engage the local community in fine arts and folk arts by arranging exhibitions and other cultural events.
Political: It endorses and examines the political functioning based on the development of society with human rights issues, education, health, environment, and other welfare and also supports the participation of women in the political course. SACRED is eager to collaborate with other political agencies that have similar viewpoints and are keen to render support.

New Initiatives
SRUSTHI Ramanagara – Farmers’ Producer Company
With all the working experience with various domains of farming techniques with the farmers and with the farmers’ clubs, SACRED has promoted a farmer producer organization called SRUSTHI Ramnagara Farmers Producer Company with the support of NABARD. The farmer producer organization has been registered under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. At present, the company has a participating shareholder of 921. Share amount of Rs.328,050/- at present through the Farmers Producers Company; desi seeds, ragi, and vegetables are promoted. Various capacity-building activities are also conducted for the participating rural farmers, including farming practices, community initiative marketing systems, and value-added techniques for the products. Various value-added products of ragi, including papad, sandig, laddu, mixture, chakkali, and powder, are being made and being marketed.
Collective action and women’s empowerment—The case of dairy cooperative societies in Karnataka, India”
Background:
The PhD student is doing research on “Collective action and women’s empowerment—The case of dairy cooperative societies in Karnataka, India” under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Markus Hanisch at the Division of Cooperative Sciences, Humboldt University of Berlin, and Dr. Manjunatha at the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore. The field research work will be conducted in the study area together with SACRED.
Objectives:
Dairy cooperatives in India have a long and successful history of providing incomes to small-scale farmers and increasing milk production and consumption. In Karnataka, there are over ten thousand milk producer cooperative societies (MPCS) functioning at the village level; around 25% of them are organized as women-only groups.
The main focus of the field research survey using a structured questionnaire is based on the following research questions: (1) How is women’s bargaining power in the household affected by their participation in dairy production as cooperative members or unorganized producers? and (2) Do different organizational forms (women-only and mixed-gender) of cooperatives lead to different outcomes for women’s bargaining power in the household?
Moreover, expert interviews are conducted to address the research question (3): What are the characteristics of cooperatives that influence women’s participation at the cooperative level?
And focus group discussions shall be conducted with members of each dairy society to address research question (4): Through which mechanisms can membership in dairy cooperatives affect women’s bargaining power?
Scope and Structure of the Project:
The field research work takes place from October 21st to December 22nd in Ramanagara District according to the attached schedule. 15 villages are selected to conduct the research. The agent team will support the PhD researcher in conducting the structured survey of farm households as well as in translating expert interviews with cooperative leaders and Focus Group Discussions.
Tasks of the Agent:
The agent team will support the PhD researcher in contacting the dairy cooperative societies and respective village leaders, getting permission for conducting the field research and handling the practical issues while conducting the field work. The agent team will accompany and assist the PhD researcher in following tasks during the field work:
- Translation
- Contacting the dairy cooperative societies
- Interviews with cooperative leaders (secretary or president)
- Conducting focus group discussion with members of dairy societies
- Completing structured interviews according to the questionnaire
In all the above tasks and in several related issues the agent will continuously accompany the PhD researcher. The agent team is committed to comply with the ethical and scientific guidelines in conducting the survey.
